A Coupled Lattice Boltzmann Method and Discrete Element Method for Discrete Particle Simulations of Particulate Flows
Discrete particle simulations are widely used to study large–scale particulate flows in complex geometries where particle–particle and particle–fluid interactions require an adequate representation but the computational cost has to be kept low. In this work, we present a novel coupling approach for such simulations. A lattice Boltzmann formulation of the generalized Navier–Stokes equations is u...
متن کاملLattice-Boltzmann Simulations of Particle-Fluid Suspensions
This paper reviews applications of the lattice-Boltzmann method to simulations of particle-fluid suspensions. We first summarize the available simulation methods for colloidal suspensions together with some of the important applications of these methods, and then describe results from lattice-gas and latticeBoltzmann simulations in more detail. The remainder of the paper is an update of previou...
متن کاملQuasi - Particle Model for Deconfined Matter
Our quasi-particle model for deconfined matter near Tc is reviewed. The extrap-olation of lattice QCD data to a finite baryo-chemical potential is discussed. Determined by the chiral transition temperature Tc, the resulting equation of state of neutral and β-stable deconfined matter is soft and limits size and mass of pure quark stars.
متن کاملHybrid Particle Lattice Boltzmann Shallow Water for Interactive Fluid Simulations
We introduce a hybrid approach for the simulation of fluids based in the Lattice Boltzmann Method for Shallow Waters and particle systems. Our modified LBM Shallow Waters can handle arbitrary underlying terrain and arbitrary fluid depth. It also introduces a novel and simplified method of tracking dry-wet regions. Dynamic rigid bodies are also included in our simulations using a two-way couplin...
متن کاملLubrication corrections for lattice-Boltzmann simulations of particle suspensions.
The lattice-Boltzmann method has been refined to take account of near-contact interactions between spherical particles. First, we describe a comprehensive solution to the technical problems that arise when two discretized surfaces come into contact. Second, we describe how to incorporate lubrication forces and torques into lattice-Boltzmann simulations, and test our method by calculating the fo...
